I have had a property for sale FSBO and have received a good offer online. The buyer has never seen the property and it scares me. Should I just tell him/her when the check clears I will hand over the deed? Or should I have a broker make sure it is legit. Are there scams out there I should be concerned about?
"My earnest money is $1000? I already have a cashier's check for $10k. Please send me the difference in cash..."
LOL
Right, beware if the check is more than the asking price and they want the difference reimbursed.
Almost guaranteed, the check will bounce!! And you will have "gifted" them the difference...
Common scam out there.

I recently fell victim to a duped buyer's agent who fell for this BS. When the "buyer" was asked for $1,500 he sent $350K which obviously set off some alarms. I'm sure the "buyer" would have canceled the contract after the inspection and asked for the funds to be returned and then the check would have later bounced. The buyer's agent lied to me through her teeth about the fact that she had talked with this buyer on the phone and vetted him. Had I known the truth, I never would have wasted my time with the offer.
Are these email addresses traceable? I would like to find these people and mess with them with their own tactics.
These are criminals.
Leave them alone and get on with your business.
I have received three of these on listings in the last 10 days.
