It is a tradition. There is a part of the tradition that has to do with agents selling themselves and their image as their business.
There is part of the tradition that has to do with safety and identification. When an agent shows up at an occupied home for sale, knocks on a neighborhood door, or meets a new client, their card helps verify with their face, that they are in fact a real estate agent, not just a thief casing the place or trying to lure people into vacant properties.
I don't put my picture on my business cards because I'm cheap and print my own.
I'd recommend not doing that. What price range do you want to work? Does a cheap card represent what you want to sell?
