Is there more opportunity for brokers in business or residential real estate in Los Angeles and elsewhere? Obviously there's more residential homes than business properties but I also heard that there's about 200 agents for every one residential listing in Los Angeles.
I am assuming that you are trying to compare commercial versus residential real estate. They are two different types of businesses. Commercial properties generally sell for more than residential properties but you are looking at fewer number of transactions in commercial versus residential. Are you looking at the possibility of doing commercial leases? Don't you think that there are a lot of commercial real estate agents too?

Business = commercial.
I don't know. That's why I'm asking.
Residential and Commercial business are different in nature to deal. If you think commercial deals are less in number because of the huge number of residential properties then you are wring. Also it depend upon the specific state real estate market. The bigger the real estate market,t he more will be the opportunities.
The commissions in commercial real estate can be mind boggling - 6 figures and up but you'll go 18 months without any income and this side of the business is about at cutthroat as it gets.
I'm just a lowly consumer, but I would guess that commercial sales is all about networking while residential is all about advertising.
Networking is quite important in residential, too.
But, commercial is more dependent on knowing people higher up the food chain economically and politically.
