I'm not sure I understand the question. A 401 is handled by the company's choice of companies, you really do not have the option of picking an independent financial planner to manage it to my knowledge.
Yes, I set up my "uni-K" a few years ago. That's the term for a single, self-employed person. Has a lot higher contribution level than other accounts. Also, has different tax benefits than the SEP I was contributing to beforehand.
I have the Roth option in my plan.
