I can definitely say no one in Massachusetts refers to themselves as being from "the bay area." There is a neighborhood in Boston called the Back Bay but those folks would say "I live in the Back Bay." Very interesting story behind the name. Definitely Google it.
Well, the fact is, I think it IS the only bay area that is *called* The Bay Area.
So... OP... there is at least one, but she's being a little shy about it.
"The Bay Area" means, to me, the "San Francisco Bay Area", which is my home; however, Wikipedia lists several places called the Bay Area, including the nearby Monterey Bay Area:
If I thought "The Bay Area" always and only referred to the SF Bay Area, then I would not have added "San Francisco" (as in San Francisco Bay Area) in my location.
We can keep arguing semantics if you want, but the poster indicated above that he/she did in fact mean your Bay Area.
