My recent closing, I was stumped about what to get for my buyer. I asked his mother. She was stumped as well. She gave me a great idea a few days later. Garden tools! Now he will blame me for his bad back in the future.

I've been giving away paintings from a local artist. I can get them in bulk for cheaper and it's unique.

I found this thread, and didn't have any idea that realtors gave closing gifts. Is this a regional thing? Is this common in the DC market? We've bought two homes, and didn't receive anything either time. (We certainly were easy clients, I think. First time, she spent one day looking at homes with us and we made an offer that was accepted. Second time, he spent maybe 1.5 days.) Anyway, I'm not upset about it, I think both of my agents did a great job, and that's what they were there for.

Most of the gifts listed here sound like wonderful ideas.

(Well, all except the sign with you contact information. Who is hanging that up?)

Varies by agent I'd guess. I think in my market most of the producers give a closing gift but I don't know everyone else's practice to give an accurate answer.

I'm in Northern VA and recently purchased. The "machine" was well oiled (I used a top team in my area). About 2 weeks after closing I received a very nice front door mat with my last name on it from Pottery Barn. What's funny is I don't think the two agents I worked with even knew (or remembered) the gift was ordered. Their secretary had ordered it when the HUD I was turned in. Nice personal gift that appeared by rote.

These are very nice gifts. People seem to like Harry and David gift baskets so that came to mind

My awesome realtor has gifted me on all 3 homes that I bought through him.
My first home was 20 years ago, he gifted me a live Christmas tree, a small table top sized one, but was a sweet gesture!
My second home, he gifted me a nice gift basket from Great Harvest bread, which came with bread, cookies, cutting knife, cutting board, and jelly.
Our third home, was a gift to a very fancy restaurant, and bottle of wine.
Our lender even gifted us on our current home, a very nice thick glass hummingbird feeder.

We continue to receive little gifts (ice cream certificates, bread baskets etc...) from our realtor throughout the year. You better believe I know who I am calling come house-shopping time!

I'm in North Central Jersey and its common practice around here. My last client I bought an adirondack chair for her lawn as she had mentioned needing a reading chair in the sun, but didn't have one. She loved it!!! In fact, she turned up at my door two weeks later with a thank you card to me and a small gift too!!!!

I currently have a single guy client under contract who is into woodworking and plans on turning the garage into a woodshop. I have seen a fabulous 'coffee table' type book on all kinds of artsy woods and cross sections of trees etc. I think he will like that.

Like the lawn service idea!!!

IMO this is a bit risky because you never know the taste of the buyers. They may prefer dogs playing poker.

Hello - this is my first post, I am a lurker who just signed up today. I am getting my license this winter-interviewing brokers now.

Just want to say I am borrowing ALL of your ideas, you all truly think outside of the box. I especially like the interior decorator one since my blog is going to be heavy on interior decorators in my area (selling the dream you know)....

okay bye
