Short answer: No

Long answer: No, with exceptions.

If you work a flexible job, with flexible hours as your primary job, then you might be able to make it work. If you work a 9-5 5 days a week and can't take outside calls while at work, then the only thing you will be successful at is losing clients.

Real estate is a "time is of the essence" type business. When a problem comes up, or a contract comes in, you have to deal with it within a certain time frame. If you have a listing, you need to be able to take calls about the listing and be able to show it reasonably quickly, or the buyer is going to move on to the next house.

The only successful agents I have seen in our office are all full time agents. They put a lot of hours in.

Woah.. I am starting to learn that you can't do "everything.." I have so many interests that it boggles the mind. Thanks for all the inputs. At least everyone is pointing out the reality rather then sugar coating it. Again this was just a thought. I have a primary plan I am still tackling while gaining other interest. I hope I don't end up living up to that saying "jack of all trades master at none..."

If you really want this, get your license. Then find an agent who needs a go-fer. Learn to stage, draft advertising, set signs, proof-contracts, sit open houses, etc for a tiny part of the commission split. If you are with a good agent, you'll still bring home $ 10-15,000 per year. Then after you get a handle and understand exactly what is expected, you'll be able to decide whether to get deeper into the biz.
