Default Supra box doesn't work for other cities

I join the Tri Country board and my supra key only works for East LA area. Now that I have a client from Hollywood, my supra key doesn't work for their keybox. My broker suggested me to ask the selling agents to open doors for me every time I show, which I believe it's very inconvenient.

I tried asking the selling an agent which board they join for the area but he didn't tell me. I dont mind paying for an extra fee but what can I do now? Can Tri Country help me? I plan to show some houses this Saturday so I must get access to the keybox soon.

Thanks alot in advance.

Most MLS have rules that require any property advertised therein to be accessible to the member agents.
Is it in your MLS? The agent should have a lockbox on it that you can open.
f you are accessing another MLS, of which you are not a member, join. Your supra e-key can accomodate access codes for several different MLS.

My board switched from SUPRA to Sentri-lock. The board that covers an adjoining area decided to stay with SUPRA, just because.

Sentri-lock has many advantages over SUPRA, including the listing agent's ability to assign a one day entry code to a verified agent who does not have access to Sentri-lock lockboxes. This makes it easy for any agent to show the property.

When agents from the SENTRI-lock board show homes in the SUPRA area the protocol is to pick up a key from the listing broker's office and then return it, afterwards.

The real fun is when a SUPRA agent takes a listing in the Sentri-lock area. This can, in some instances, entail an 80-100 mile round trip to pick up and return a key. Hit it at the wrong time of day and this can take about an hour, each way.

Local agents will not show the property unless the client insists. No doubt the homeowner has no clue that their choice of an out of area agent is costing them showings because local agents cannot get easy access to the property.

A few agents, including me, belong to both boards and pay 2X. This increases my cost of doing business. I may or may not renew the out of area board, next year.

This is the way we used to do it here in DFW with up to 3 MLS systems. We still have various Realtor Associations but merged our MLS into 1 large system that covers the whole North Texas Area and as far as 150 miles in 1 direction. I can show homes all over our area and never worry about my Supra not working.

I can see someday TX having 1 to 3 large MLS. Not sure that's a good thing.

We recently went through a consolidation of 2 MLS into one big and better MLS, subscribed to by many different real estate boards. The supporter of the now retired MLS is the board that dug their heels in and stayed with SUPRA. Politics, as usual.

I would never take a listing that was out of my MLS. BUT if I did, I would put a combo box on that listing. I am even going to put a combo box on one of my listings that's WAY OUT on the fringe and sometimes has agents from another state who want to show it but don't have supra keys.

Many MLS areas have rules against putting a combo box on a house. Technically, we are only suppose to do it if the house is vacant not occupied. It is less secure and does not register who comes and goes into the house.

There are no rules like that in our area. We use the dial combination locks as opposed.

Regardless, it really isn't doing the client any good to list outside of the MLS where the home is located. It's irresponsible of the agent to do it, in my opinion.

In my area, it's the same MLS, with different real estate boards.

Lock box stuff is determined at the local real estate board level in my neck of the woods.
