Do you have an agent you trust in KC? That agent can interview Tampa agents and find a good fit and then refer you to the Tampa agent. With your trusted agent in KC having some skin in the game, they will monitor your progress with your Tampa agent and make sure you are satisfied. Most agents on this forum network extensively around the country and have can easily find a qualified agent in Tampa.
In theory this is true, but I had one agent from another city decide not to send her client my way because I wouldn't give her a 50% referral fee. If I was going to use a referral from an agent I, personally, would ask what kind of referral fee is involved. I'd want to know if I'm being referred to a specific agent because they are giving my agent a really high referral fee or because my agent really thinks they are good.
Hold the line please. If an agent from Timbuto calls me, informs me that they absolutely control, ie their mother, their sibling, best friend since pre-school, their referral, I'm perfectly fine with a 50% referral. If however, they just have a name, 10% may be too much, especially if the deal will require lots of time, expense, and effort.
What few people realize is that I am a professional; therefore, each opportunity has costs and values.
While I'm more than willing (well, my broker is) to pay a referral fee, 50% is, indeed, excessive on the part of the referring agent. There's a LOT of work involved not only in finding the right home but in bringing the deal to closing, that is done on the ground in the location where the deal is being consummated, which any experienced agent knows and knows that they, as the referring agent, will NOT be doing. To ask a 50% referral for, basically, sending the customer - heck, not even relocation companies ask that much yet!
I don't see too many experienced agents paying that. A rookie or an agent with little business, probably. I just think a consumer needs to know what is happening in an exchange like that so they know why they are getting referred to that agent.
Do you have an agent you trust in Tampa? Ask that person for a
referral. I go to a lot of conventions and trainings and have met agents all over the country. Guess I should carry my business card holder with me so I can make referrals
