I live in NYC and have been trying to sell my apartment. I canceled the contract with my last real estate agent because he wasn't providing enough exposure. He claims to have mailed my keys back to me weeks ago but I never received them. He refuses any responsibility. Completely unprofessional. Should I pursue this? He works independently (BIG MISTAKE) so there's no boss to report him to. Any suggestions???

Why hassle for one lousy key. Spend the bucks and install a NEW lock/doorknob.

Any new tenent/owner would automatically change it anyway for security needs.

1) What proof do you have that he didn't mail the keys?

2) Just because he's independent doesn't mean there's no chain of command...the state still oversees what he's doing.

3) Why is the first solution to solving a problem always the most drastic in this society? It's a key for Christ's sake. Go to Home Depot and spend $25 for a new lockset.

Rekey your lock and be done with it.

Just rekey the locks.A locksmith can do it quickly usually same day.
He mailed the key to your house with the address of your house on the envelope?
First lesson in real estate: never associate the key with an address.
