Maybe they thought it was the ugliest thing they ever saw. Sounds like you guys are just pissed off that someone made changes that you guys loved.
Nah.
Pissed off is pushing it. I think we are more pissed that they did not tell us. We would have been glad to "help" them remove that "unsightly" solid cherry cabinetry!
Seriously though, this is not a question of pissed. Pissed is when the Mortgage company e-mailed us saying we would be rejected because of a car loan they said was OK only a week before we were to close on our new place. THAT got us pissed.
This? Annoyed, definitely. And sad, mostly. I should actually try and get a before/after shot up for you guys to see. It is hard to say "look look!" when there is nothing to look at!
BTW, the last few posts have all been the Hubby, in case you all did not know!
It is just wasteful. I really cannot see how she would be able to do anything else with that space that would be more functional, or appreciably more aesthetic.
Seems like a waste of $$ on both ends. Ours for spending so much and leaving so soon, and hers for removing something so valuable with so little reason to do so.....
Just because you liked it doesn't mean it was appealing to them. They could've thought it was unbelievably tacky. In fact, they may have bought the house IN SPITE of the cabinets.
And they had EVERY reason to do so - it's their house.
BTW, the bottom is open due to base-board heating... We could not close it up w/o substantial plumbing.....
Like I said, this was not a huge thing here, but compared to the original (which I have on my server which is now buried somewhere in the garage)......
I know I know. She would never have seen the original, so it has no bearing on her decision. I just fear that she will paint the walls green again!
I guess the thing is, it is hard to see someone so close minded to strip something definitely worth boku $ that really does not conflict with anything.... Maybe if my wife allows me, I will post a pic/link to the unit so you can all get an idea of what it looked like.......
Honestly you sound extremely close minded. The fact that you guys can't get your head around the fact that someone else might have not liked what you did.
You might think the color is 'neutral.' But everyone likes different types of wood. Personally I'm not into the cherry/brown. Especially the tone that is presented in your picture. The fad seems to be cherry and anything brown. Personally I hate brown. Our foyer/great room is this brown neutral color. Everyone comes in and loves. I hate it. I can't wait to get rid of it, but it's hard to paint as it's one of those two story walls. We've painted some other rooms , blue and green. Many people don't like it. Oh well. I don't care, it's my house and I'm paying for it!
Anyway, I think it's probably really hard to have someone not like something so much that they removed it immediately while it was something you loved. If I redid some room that I loved and then sold the home; Then saw a new owner tear it out, I'd probably be hurt.
But I don't agree with calling these people closedminded. You obviously still have a lot of emotional attachments to that home. Hopefully you'll be able to move on and let it go. They are the ones who are paying the mortgage on it and maybe put a lot of money into it as a downpayment
When I read the title, I thought someone was throwing away something that was still usable but since the handyman took it home and was able to use it, that is not an issue.
It seems you feel it is wasteful that someone doesn't have the same taste as you. For the record, in my opinion, the cabinets are beautiful but I know not everyone has the same tastes.
Ugh, those are hideous. I'd have removed them too. They absolutely clash with the fireplace.
