is it customary that the buyers agent be at the closing?
I always go unless on Vacation. Closing is the culmination of all the hard work and there is always questions to be answered. It gives me a Chance to talk about the home warranty, filing your homestead exemption, taxes, etc.
I would think any good agent would want to be there if possible.

I always attend the closing no matter what side I'm representing. If I'm out of town then I send another agent from my office to attend in my place. I always want to make sure that in all phases of the process my clients are properly represented and have someone available to answer questions.
I think the agent should keep in contact with the client at least weekly.
I like to request the clients lender and the title company to copy me and the client on all communications. That way everyone remains in the loop and there is no question as to what is happening.,

If the client is in town and goes to the title company to sign documents, then I attend that closing. I'm there mostly to make sure that everything goes smoothly. I have my laptop with all my client files in there, so I can quickly access any data if necessary.
I'm now signing my FOURTH amendment as the closing date just keeps moving back, week after week...I'm the seller, I had tenants and if I'd known the underwriter and others were going to do this, I could have kept my tenants and not be under so much financial stress since I've now had to pay two mortgages! I'm starting to wonder if I'm being tooled.
How many times can the lender/buyer/mortgage people keep coming up with details they should have covered weeks ago?
