How inhumane, to have to walk down the stairs to use the bathroom!

The horror!!

I love the looks I get when I tell people we only have 1.5 baths. It "expected" to have a master bath for some reason these days and most don't get how on earth we manage. Not saying I wouldn't love one if we move someday, but good grief we are very spoiled these days!!

When there is a bathroom already on that floor it is a bit ridiculous to have to go downstairs.

We only have 1.5 baths too and it doesn't bother me at all. What I don't do is make my kids use the half bath just because the full is meant to be a master! I actually prefer having only the one bathroom. It's much less cleaning.

Well, if you only have 1.5, then the full really isn't meant to be the master??

Parents with small kids will want them to use a bathroom on the same floor during the middle of the night. Groggy kids who have just mastered the toilet going downstairs in the middle of the night isn't appealing to parents. You'd lose some of your family buyers from your buyer pool.

If you can make it a jack and Jill that really helps a lot. You have to be buying an old small cottage with that room setup. People who are old house buyers learn to deal with odd floor plans. It's often the price you have to pay for having an old and charming house.

If it has a good location and you can make that bedroom accessible then you open up resale for families a bit more. What I have found with old quirky houses is that if the living space (living room, kitchen, dining room) is functional and the house has a decent yard, then some families will put up with a quirky bedroom situation. Most people don't spend a lot of time in their bedrooms anyway.
