Out of curiosity, is your locked rate better than the current rates? My guess would be that rates have either gone down or stayed the same. Also, has anything materially changed for you in terms of your file? Did you buy a car, bounce checks, not make payments, etc.?

If the lock does expire and as long as you don't have anything that would be of concern, what is the harm in letting it expiring and leaving the rate to float until closing?

Mortgate rates are at a 9 month high. You definitely do not want to let your locked rate expire.

Agreed, $2000 is cheap by comparison, assuming you still can do it.

And after hearing how uncooperative they are, doing a rent back for free will only bring heart-ache. Don't sing any notes on new property until you have seen what the home looks like once they are out,
