Baths are nice, but I really like my barns.

It's called "sharing." Families have been doing it for centuries.

yeah, based upon that why do we even have houses with more than 1 bath?

Yes sharing is how it gets done, that doesn't mean that there aren't problems that arise from trying to share a bath, and especially so the older children are.

even as a couple 1.5 baths would be a lot more ideal

Recently I moved out of my 2000 sq ft house and turned it into a rental. Now I am in my 1000 sq ft apartment until I get ready for my out of state move. With 2 kids and a dog, I think I would be more comfortable between 2300-3000 sq ft.

Yes and in some cultures they share their wifes and have been doing so for centuries.

Did you assume I do not know what sharing means? Give me a break.

My wife and I live with our dog in a 3bed 3bath 1800-2000ish sqft house with a basement of which 600sqft is used as if it was finished space (despite being below grade). We really only live in half the space, and the rest is excess capacity. We typically find good uses for it, such as storing furniture for my college aged baby sister, hosting parties like bridal/baby showers, and enabling my medium scale homebrewing operation. Three or four times a year, my brother and his family come to visit. When the four of them are staying with us, the excess capacity is used up very quickly.

Knowing what I know now, I would probably not change too much if I had to buy again. In my area, three bedroom houses tend to hold their value better than two bedroom houses, and I would rather grow into a house rather than trade up when we start a family. My wife and I both have good jobs right now, so the plan is to pay off as much of the house as we can and remodel things to be the way that we want it so that we don't have to worry about that kind of stuff when we have kids.

I cringe when I think about how my mother grew up in a 1200 sqft house with ten kids, a dirt floor basement, and one full bathroom. Then again, when my grandmother was my age (32) she already had six kids.

The only reason I'd want more than one bathroom is if the toilet becomes unusable. I can wash and brush my teeth at the kitchen sink, but being without a toilet is trouble.

Otherwise it's just another room to clean. And I'm perfectly capable of waiting my turn while another family member uses the bathroom.

When did we become such a spoiled, entitled and impatient group of people?

When there were 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) living here, we had more than enough room in our 1680 sq. ft. house. Now our oldest has left home, it's much more than we need.

Probably the same time you became such a judgmental bitter person.

I have a 5 bedroom, 3 bath and do not make an exorbitant salary, it all depends where you live. My house if on Long Island would probably be $1.5 mil, in some areas of Cali probably $2 mil, where I am it cost $180K for the land and to build 7 years ago.
