That usually means there is enough through traffic and/or a high enough road speed to justify that warning to vehicles. Given a choice, most people would rather not have that in their front yard where their kids and dogs should be.
I agree, especially when marked as Dead End, No Exit, etc. I think cul de sacs offer less traffic, more privacy, and more security.
Early on in my home buying experience, I was told never, never buy a home on a road with a line painted down the middle of the road.....LOL

I even like my roads windy with many curve warnings (thus to slow down), and people have to cross many one lane bridges before accessing to my part of road(s) that look like a one laner.
