We had an appointment to see a house today, made through the centralized showing service. Pull up on time, 2 cars on driveway and in front of house, lockbox on door but storm door is locked. Cannot get to lockbox. Call service, call listing agent, no luck. Hours later, text listing agent, finally get him to respond. Still no luck getting in house.
I am so hacked by this, this house is the closest to my grandkids, right price range, pictures look good. But no access! Arrgh!!! So, I am making an offer on another house as I am on a deadline from out of town.
It happens, I'll be told the house has an electronic lock box and have my key card and see a mechanical lock box on the door and a listing agent that doesn't answer their phone (no centralized showing service in Maine yet).
No, the "we" was me and my buyer's agent (signed rep agreement). She was not happy but I was really ticked off. She is the one who called the showing service, they would not have talked to me, she has to identify hself with a code and her name when she calls. She called and sent a text to the listing agent.
Hey it happens. Honestly if you are in the habit of "buttoning up" the storm door (and there were a whole lot of storms this weekend in various parts of the country...) and then leaving it is entirely possible that some hapless seller just forgot.
In Maine many sellers don't like lock boxes and our instructions are, "the door will be unlocked." Sometimes if there are two showings, the agent before me will forget to leave it open and lock it so that when I get there...
Not a short sale, I am on a tight deadline to get a new house as mine is closing on the 30th. I knew I couldn't look at short sales. So I a buying another house, these people still aren't in touch, I am convinced they went out of town.
This sort of happened to us at a showing once. The key in the lockbox only opened the lock on the handle and not the dead bolt. Our agent was luckily able to get hold of the listing agent who actually lived in the neighborhood...except she wasn't home so we had to hang out for an hour and wait for her, and it was so hot out. Then she had to go to the neighbor's house who had a spare key to get into the back door....luckily they were home!!!

Sounds like the sellers dodged a bullet with an innocent mistake. If you are hacked about this, I can't even imagine getting into contract negotiations with you.
