The shows are fake. House Hunters and HGTV released a statement a few months ago on their facebook show explaining that the buyers are real but they do wait until after the home is purchased to begin filming after someone outed them online. The other two houses the person saw weren't even on the market, it was their friends home.

Wow, thanks for that link...sort of. I had heard the show was staged and/or scripted in some ways, but I had no idea the homes featured aren't even for sale! HGTV kind of side-steps this issue in the response:

Often everything moves much more quickly than we can anticipate, so we go back and revisit some of the homes that the family has already seen and we capture their authentic reactions.

Well, yeah, "the family has already seen" them because they're the homes of FRIENDS...? So the pricing and everything is just pulled out of their a**** then? That's a bummer. I watch the show to see how homes are priced in various markets and what buyers find important when house-hunting.

I did add that woman's blog to my Favorites list, though, so thanks for that... :-)

I am watching less now, knowing that our fantasy was a complete fantasy.
