I've been reading about split plan floor plans and I'm a little confused.

From what I'm seeing it's describing single story houses where the master is on one end of the house, then the living room, kitchen, etc then the rest of the bedrooms.

But how does that apply to a 2 story level house or a townhouse?

I'm not confusing it with a split level but the whole "the master is separated from the rest of the bedrooms"

With a 2 story does that mean no bedroom is above the master? I'm noticing with a lot of houses the largest upstairs bedroom typically the mini master, directly above it.

So in a split plan would that mean say the media room is situated above the master since it wouldn't be someone directly above the master at all times?

I've never heard of the expression before.

Split level I've head of... I grew up in one.

Perhaps the meaning is simply that the bedrooms are split to the two different floors, i.e., the master is on a different floor than the childrens' rooms.

Google "Split Bedroom House Plans".

I found a number of 2-story plans with the MBR on the first floor and nothing above it. They had varied roof lines. More square footage on the 1st floor than the 2nd.

The houses here (sadly) mostly have the master bedroom on the second floor. Ours is split upstairs - master at one end of hallway, kids at the other.

Why not just look at one described as a split plan? Its hard to describe if your a visual person.
