i agree with this - we renovated our last house to an open concept on the first floor. Even with new insulation and windows, I found the first floor much harder to keep warm. We had 9' ceilings there, no cathedral or 2 story spaces.

I own a home with high ceilings and I will never buy a home like that again. One winter my heating bill was $500 for one month.

I was so upset I had an energy audit conducted and they couldn't really find anything other than the ceilings being the issue. I even called the gas company insisting something had to be wrong because I had a $500 bill and my house never felt warm ever.
