I am looking at a house in Southern Pa which has a roof listed as an asbestos roof. The house was built circa 2001-2002. Wasn't asbestos material outlawed by then? Is it possible the realtor placed this information into the listing incorrectly? Thanks.

My guess would be that they meant "asphalt", as in asphalt shingles. I can imagine that a house that new would still have asbestos- but obviously do the necessary research in case it was some very unusual situation.

That makes much more sense. They are having an open house this weekend and I will ask the realtor then.

If it were built in '01-'02 then it is probably asphalt shingle. Is it in a newer neighborhood? You can post the street with the street number range an it may be able to checked via google satellite view.

Probably just hit the wrong word in a drop down dialogue box.

I would expect the two terms to be adjacent in the MLS input screen, in alphabetical order.

Which is why I have my clients read over their MLS sheet. I go over them as well and have caught mistakes I made because of just that.

Me too. A mistake like this one could scare some people away for no good reason. Mistakes happen, but when you're selling someone's largest asset you need to be more careful than this.

Agreed. You see the word asbestos and you move on to the next house.
