That's good. Around here we end up doing that to older homes. Mine was built in 1962 and few garages were finished back then. Another thing to consider is a reflective barrier placed on the roof before the roofing material is laid down to reflect heat away from the structure. Maybe my suggestions won't work for places where it hits 100+. Around here when it is 80 that is a hot hot day.

Who says they don't?

My house in Las Vegas has just that type of vent fan in the garage, albeit in/on the ceiling rather than the wall. But truth be told, I don't think that I've ever turned it on. The garage also has a regular ceiling fan, but the only time it is used is when someone is working in the garage, say servicing the garage door or painting the garage itself.
