Even reputable companies can sure make stupid mistakes.
I had a small farm mortgage remaining and had been with a local mutual insurance company for 30 years.
One day I got a rather nasty letter from my bank stating they were not happy I had canceled my farm/property insurance in violation of my mortgage contract.
They stated State Farm had notified them.
First off, I did have car insurance only with State Farm
My son, had farm insurance with State Farm but canceled it and took a policy out with a different mutual insurance company.
However, my son had no mortgage ot account with the bank that held my farm mortgage.
Strange why State Farm would notify my bank and say it was me that canceled .
I sold a property and provided a copy of the closing papers to my agent to cancel and process a refund.
Two weeks later I get a refund check and confirmation of policy cancellation... they canceled my homeowners policy and not the policy on the rental I had sold.
Got the notice on a Friday night when I got home from work just before a 3 day weekend.
Drove over to my Insurance Agents house and camped out for her to get home... she said it was no problem and all would be straightened out on Tuesday... which it was.
