True. Absent moving, there's not much a homeowner can do. But for a purchaser, the potential for increased flood elevations is a good thing to keep in mind if you're trying to avoid unnecessary risks.

Funny- we're under Flood Advisory and I can't find any maps showing what area that covers.

Tried doing same search for another Idaho city and it's indecipherable.

REALLY?

Was this actually mapped and determined to be accurate? I ask because at one point several of us homeowners got letters saying we were in the floodzone. We felt we weren't just based on common sense. So we got a group rate from a good surveyor and we weren't. Then it was found out FEMA had a plane go over, yes, and all the homes around the blue spots were sent these letters. Our govt. at work.

A flood advisory is different, like a weather warning. You may not be located in a flood plain but still get a flood advisory from local weather agencies during heavy rains.

Is this what you're talking about??

This may or may not be relevant any longer as the maps and rules have changed. A large portion of our property lies in a flood zone. Our house does not. The flood zone is 100 or so feet away. It came up when we first applied for a mortgage (and insurance later) 12-13 years ago. We had a mortgage survey completed that showed the house location and the flood zone. No flood insurance was needed.

We've refinanced a few times since then. The issue has never been raised again, and I know that the flood zone hasn't changed.

Have you refinanced since 2005?
