So, if you ever wanted to take revenge on your HOA...lol!

HOA's in CA have been notorious, especially in the Sacramento area, for insisting residents keep at least part of their landscaping in lawns, and fine them if they turn brown. The drought is turning all that around. Governor Brown yesterday issued the second executive order regarding the drought, and specified that HOA's cannot fine residents for not watering their yards.

This should drive the control-freak yard monitors nuts...

Texas is implementing water use controls due to the on-going drought. Some cities are encouraging the use of buffalo grass and other low-maintenance grasses instead of San Augustine, as well as other low water use landscaping.

I read another article that said some cities/counties are providing grant money to homeowners to tear out lawns and put in xeriscaping. Great opportunity for property owners. I remember when there was grant money to put solar panels on your home and the city would buy your extra electricity. I know this happened at least in Sacramento.

So, homeowners, do your research - you may get some free new landscaping and a lower water bill.

I'd love to see this all around the country. Colorado ruled that residents had a right to xeriscape (we use rocks instead of grass), and HOAs are permitted to have a warm glass of ****. HOAs mandating that lawns be kept green might as well rename themselves the planet destroyers, and they could work on everything related to destroying the planet for the next few generations.

Wonder what an HOA with those rules would do about a homeowner who planted zoysia grass?

It goes dormant in the winter and when it does, it turns a lovely shade of golden brown.

"Blonde." We zoysia owners prefer to recognize it as "blonde."
