To me they seem like a waste. I don't do much 'hanging out' in the bedroom. When I am there I am sleeping... or doing other things that completely take my mind off the decor .
I always kind of figured a huge master suite was something that people with kids wanted, so that they would have a private area to escape and get some peace and quiet!
One other thing I love and my husband could care less about is a well organized pantry.
Also closet systems. I love them, particularly the nice wood ones with baskets. He doesn't even notice.
Yes, I definitely care about closets. I'm okay with a blank slate, so long as the closets are large enough to upgrade and install custom closet shelving, etc later.

Yes! I hate the really textured walls - orange peel, I think? I just look at them and think about dust.
Another thing I look for is good wall space for hanging art. I have a nice collection of paintings & it's important to me that I can display them to their best advantage.

I have yet to see a house that was too masculine. My main concerns are age, remaining life of the roof and ac/heating units followed by fencing, size of the kitchen, cabinet space, flooring and size of the garage and baths. The kitchen also has to be unseen from the main entry (messy person). I hate carpeting, especially in halls or living areas. I always assume the worst so if for some reason we had to sell, I'd like to be able to dump it quickly. My husband is more concerned with the face of the home, exterior construction material (prefers all brick), size of the bedrooms and if a lot of people park in the street; the latter bothers both of us.
My wife has an interior design degree (but doesn't work in that field) but she can visualize space and color way, way better than me. When we bought our house, she was picturing each project, configuration, and paint color to do to each room. I was more interested in the attic and basement and yard and general workflow of the kitchen and bathrooms. I was picturing how to cook dinner among the kids or how bathtime would go.
