In my opinion, a corner lot is preferable and raises the value. I have a home in on a corner lot and have the largest yard in my subdivision. My yard has a large hedge row along the side facing the streets ensuring privacy.
on your local attitudes. In phoenix, corners lots wete coveted. Now, we are in Raleigh, NC, and out corner lot is not so coveted.

Our house will be a corner lot and I dont feel a particular way about it. I do like that its on a back street without major traffic.
A street that is off the "major drag" is always going to broader desirabilty than one that is heavily traveled. Comparing a "corner lot" near a well landscaped park or play lot is a whole lot different than one at a busy intersection...
If you want to fence in your backyard on a corner lot be sure to check your local regulations. Here any side that faces a street is considered the same as a front and fence height is restricted to that. For our area back fence can be, I think, 6 ft tall, but front can only be 4 ft. I've known homes that have been ordered to lower what they considered a backyard fence side because it faced the other street.
Any assessment for sidewalks, waterlines, etc that is based on road frontage will be more on a corner lot. I've had a few friends that got hit with that when waterlines were being replaced in a town.
