I would replace the toilet with white and replace the brass with brushed nickel. Sams Club has an $89 toilet that has all the parts needed to install. Easy and cheap fix. I like the tile around the tub...
the brass fixtures have to go, it should be chrome, or nickel, gold and gray do not match, at all. curtains and rug, need to dissappear, get a white mini blind. towels, who cares, they are not staying, anyone should realize that.
Could the black tiles in the front of the tub come off and be changed to white? That to me, would look better. The black tiles are killing my eyes, other than that, its alright and can be lived with. It isn't horrific.
Get rid of the polished brass handle and toilet paper holder, maybe replace them with brushed nickel.
Chrome. It's timeless.
I like the bathroom - it's clean and its neutral, and I wouldn't do a thing other than replacing the brass. I don't care if it is suddenly trendy, but brass and grey don't go well together in my eye.
I love grey, personally. (I'm a near 30 female.) What I do find dated are the gold metal items. Brushed nickel would look so nice with the grey. I'm pretty sure most people would agree although brushed nickel may be going out of style soonish. (Oil rubbed bronze and copper seem to be coming into vogue, but neither would go with the grey, so go for the brushed nickel.)
I definitely wouldn't have the tub and stuff painted. I had that sort of crap in a rental and it was terrible. It doesn't last and looks disgusting (easily became grimy and flaked off soon too.) I spent a lot of time stripping the coating off of my husband's bathtub when I moved in, because even a pink deglossed tub was better than the gross coating.
