Good site to check on MLS listings?
realtor.com seems to have quite a lot of outdated inventory (meaning the property was sold a long time ago), is there another site where i can check on what's available on mls?

there are a lot of local sites...local is better than aggregated data.
Where are you looking?

you can also go on different realtor company websites (ie Allen Tate, Coldwell Banker, Weichert, Remax, etc, etc)
They should have all their updated inventory listed...

I mostly use har.com
It's Houston (and surrounding areas) only.
Information is usually always up to date. Of course some listers don't updated their listings as they should.
Another really good one is ziprealty.com
They have the length of time the listing has been running
Every single date that prices has changed
And a pretty good interactive map search.
I think they are national.
Probably never have used realtor.com for any real searching.

Realtor.com is going to be the most accurate of all the web sites that collect MLS data. They get automatic daily feeds from all the MLS that participate, which is most of them in the US. If you're seeing sold listings on Realtor.com, that's because the listing agent has not yet updated their local MLS, which would make any site to which they feed data also incorrect.
The best option, if it's available in your area, is the Public site of the local MLS. Check here to see if there's a public site in your area. It's the best collection I've found of public MLS sites across the country, but it's probably not totally complete. Worth a try though.

mgs333;
I think this is the site you want for San Jose and the surrounding cites:
MLS Listings, Silicon Valley
Hope this helps!

Does anyone know of any good local sites for the Fairfax/Northern Virginia/DC area? I've found that I currently have to search realtor, zipreaty and Trulia and then sort of take them in aggregate to find everything, right now.

Try assist2sell. They list all MLS properties and do not make you sign up to get the info.
