I was watching this tv show last night where a family gets to 'test out' a potential home for 24 hours to see if they want to buy it. What do realtors think of this? Is it more harmful than helpful for a seller? Homeowners...do you think that you would have changed your mind about your house if you got to test it out before making your purchase?

As a seller I would not/do not want this. I don't want some stranger living in my home for 24 hours just so they can "test it out". Where do they sleep? in my bed? I think NOT! If I had this option before buying my house I would not have taken advantage of it. Oh i forgot to mention that commercial drives me crazy. I'll probably never watch the show just because of the commerical.

As a buyer I would not do this. The sellers belongings make it like staying overnight at someone else's house, not like being in your own house with your own stuff.

I don't think one night is enough to get a true sense of living somewhere, unless it just purely awful

the commercial IS pretty annoying. However...if I did do this I admit that I probably would have chose the other condo in my building I was looking at even though it was more expensive.

condos maybe but not SF for the exact reason evey suggested. I can't think of anything you're going to discover in 24 hours in a single that would cause you to not buy. Driving by a property at different times will give you the same results. I don't think that show will last.

Even if I'd do this, 24 hours is not enough to know whether or not you're going to love the house.

Exactly Roamin. As much as you like a house, it still is an adjustment. Plus you wouldn't know everything that is wrong with it. I see no benefit.

Interesting idea for a TV show, but not practical for "real life".

I think so, too. I wouldn't want people test driving my house.
