I knew which company I was going to use but had a general idea of how much it would be.

Do you call around for rates?

Does the lender have anything to do with it?
Call around for rates with the address of the house, you can do this before you put an offer in. I always do this before I put an offer in but I also look at 5-10 homes at a time and I know my agent really well.

I'm looking in Southwest Florida. due to hurricane concerns there are not a lot of insurers to choose from. I've checked and my car insurer doesn't even sell home insurance. The good thing is my auto insurance rates will go down being a homeowner and living in a better area, so I may be able to get car insurance thru the same company that insures the home if they offer it.

I called and got a quote before we made an offer on the house. It had been for sale for quite a while and I wanted to make sure there wasn't something uninsurable about it.
