Yeah, I think the words "dream home" is a bit overplayed/cliche. It is highly likely that you will live in multiple homes beyond your first home. if anything, a first home is just that. A start. For example, it took me ten years of living in my prior home to help me figure out what I really desired/needed.

I'm going to start looking again after I put my home on the market after the holidays. I bought the home i'm currently in in Feb 2015. I thought it was what I wanted, but it's just too big and too much for me. (yeah it's only 1300sq ft but it seems to take forever to clean and dust, and it's only me).

It's a 1 story 3/2/2 but I always dread the thought of cleaning up all that space, lawn maintenance, etc....I should have bought a townhome in the first place, as I basically just want to come and go....haha

The only thing I want to do is to be able to "walk away" clean....i'm not looking to make any $$ (since I was only in there for almost a year there is no $$ to be made) but I don't want to owe

good luck to all who are searching for homes! The suggestion made earlier to list your needs and wants is a good one. The list will help to put things in a more realistic perspective as you search for your home.

Agreed. I'd like to point out that a house is just a physical structure. It's the people and pets within it which make it a home. Families don't HAVE to have this amenity or that. They only need each other. In the emotional process of home buying, they often forget the most important thing.

If you plan to have kids don't forget to research the schools too. In case you do end up in that house long term.

Yep and get ready to be fleeced, I have seen parents put themselves in really really bad financial sitautions to get into a certian district. Its crazy the bid wars that go on for certian schools. If anything happend to these peoples jobs the school district would be the least of their concerns. Living hand to mouth with kids is a bad idea and thats what TONS of people are doing in order to get into these districts. These kids will be in bad shape if mom and/or dad loose their jobs.

Yeah. I am currently looking to relocate and houses in good districts are about 30% more expensive. But safer areas tend to have better schools and I definitely want safer.

My dream home happened after the fact. We bought our first, the definition of "starter home", because it was available and in an ok area. We were only there 8 years but in that time we remodeled a bit, did some landscaping, and had 2 kids. After we moved and right up until today, 24 years later, I sometimes actually do DREAM about that house and it's always in a good way, because of the memories I guess .

My current house, the one I bought next, was pretty much the same. A slightly larger "starter home" that we remodeled and added on to. This is where we raised the kids. It may not be my "dream house" yet but who know?
