So I have found a house I really like and want to put an offer in, but electric everything....

Would it be a crazy cost to have someone bring gas onto the property?

Is there a way to see whether a neighborhood might have gas lines? I assume this is the biggest cost factor...

I really want a gas stove.

Look for gas meters on side of houses.

Nothing in the house is gas. Would there be a reason to have a gas meter when there is no gas appliances?

I guess I can call the gas company on Monday and ask too.

Even if it doesn't have city gas lines to the house, you could always have a propane tank installed in the back yard ("submarine" we call them here, lol).

City gas is MUCH cheaper than propane though, and you don't need it delivered every so often by truck.

Only the gas company will be able to tell you if there's gas service on your street, and if not, where the closest main is. The gas company also can give you a ballpark figure on extending service to your house.

An electric stove isn't the end of the world, if everything else about the house is good.

Eh, if gas is so important to you, I'd rather find a home that already has the pipelines installed. FWIW, I prefer electric, but I live in a home that has gas. Go figure. But I like the house well enough so I just go with what's available.

If there us no gas on the street, it will be tens of thousands to bring it in, if even possible. Developers can specify which utility they want, usually.

In some cases The Bell may be your best bet.
My parents live in MA and the house behind them has gas.
They, however, cannot get gas. My father has been requesting it for over a decade.
