I'm considering remodeling a master bathroom to take out a large Jacuzzi tub and replace with a dual shower set up. The only people that use the tub in my household are the kids, and there's a tub in another bathroom that they can use. But my main concern is resale. I'm afraid people will see no master tub as a detractor. Any thoughts?

No, it is not a deal breaker as long as there is a tub somewhere in the home.

The only reason I would want a tub in the house, is for resale. Otherwise I wouldn't care even if there were no tubs at all in the house. I think that having a tub in another bathroom ought to be enough for resale, though.

My present house has a fabulous stand-alone shower in one bathroom, and a tub/shower in the other. I really like the stand-alone shower and use it instead of the tub/shower.

In a master bath, I'd want a separate tub and shower. Given the choice of only 1, I'd rather have a walk in shower instead of a shower/tub combo.

Our last place had two tubs and we replaced the one in the master with a fancy shower. It was something our buyer specifically called out as loving. That is a fairly typical/desirable setup now and common in new construction unless your master bathroom is big enough to have both a shower and a big soaking tub. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I much prefer a large updated shower over a tub in the master bath. That would be a plus in my book.

I'd much prefer a large, walk in shower that took the place of the tub as long as there was a tub in another bathroom for kids to use.

I only take showers when I'm in a hurry, so having a tub is a must for me.

I think as long as there is a tub elsewhere that it's fine. I have one of those huge jacuzzi tubs in my master bathroom, and it collects dust. I'd much rather have a huge upgraded walk-in shower and more storage.

When we redid our master bathroom, our contractor noted this as well. I wouldn't worry about resale if going tub-less is the style now. If you're going to do a tub, make it a standalone soaker. Something spa-like.
