Looking to get a small house (minimum 800 sq ft 2 br) for my family in New England.

I'm handy so my price range is about $150K. Something that I could also rent if needed.

I would prefer ocean but lake is nice too. I know at this price I'm looking at a fixer upper but any idea where to look?

I have tried realtor.com but that's a big search. Is that realistic price wise?

For ocean front forget CT, MA, RI & NH. You couldn't get a sliver of land on the ocean for your price.

Look in far northern Maine. You might find something on a river close to the ocean. You'll be dealing with well water/septic systems and a home that needs a lot of work but there might be some possibilities.

Google search, " Maine , ocean front, waterfront homes for sale under $160,000 ".

Goto zillow, then map. Draw custom region. Use your mouse to draw the area you like. Max price 150,000. Keywords: waterfront

Thousands of houses that fit that price range. Typically camps.

OP, what state do you want to live in ?? Hard for anyone to offer much advice without knowing that.

I have a nice piece of land for sale with ocean frontage on both coasts.

Northern Maine. I have a friend up in Jonesport Maine, nice area if you don't mind being away from everything. The lobster and mussels are as fresh as can be.

On the other side of the country, there are homes on the ocean or rivers near it here in WA state that are affordable. Try Ocean Shores, Hoquiam, Aberdeen, or Raymond. Of course, there are reasons for the low prices, such as being almost two hours from the nearest city with major hospitals, movie theaters, Costco and other big box stores, no jobs, problems with drugs and property crime.

I will check all of these. Thanks for the feedback. Northern maine seems to be the place if I want to stay in new England.
