Looking To Buy House Next To Cemetary
Hi, I found a house I love but its next to a real small 1700 cemetary. Pretty much your next door neighbor is the cemetary. Would that spook you? Of course my friend said the house must have ghost!! What do you think??

You may want to consider that it might be difficult to sell this house later on if you buy it now and change your mind later. Other people may not be interested in it because of the cemetary.

Would not bother me a bit. I grew up next to a cemetery in Germany and loved it. We did not have ghosts. It is always quiet, and most likely no new development will go up there. My parents still live in the house and it looks exactly like it did when we were kids.
Some people get spooked by it and it might hurt your re-sale chances, so it depends how long you want to live there. Other than that go for it.

By "1700 cemetery" do you mean it dates back to the 1700's? If so it would not bother me in the least. There would likely be little activity.
A new cemetery might bother me just for all of the people being around. Nothing against grieving relatives, but I would think it would make it harder to be observant of people who do not belong in the area.
All in all I would rather have less neighbors.

We have discussed this an would consider it a bonus or plus. Quiet neighbors who never complain about anything, huh?
Suppose it would be great to host a Halloween Party each year, too?

We would love to live next to a cemetery - no NFHs ... nice and quiet. An old one would be preferrable so you don't get those really long lines of traffic in and out - that could be a pain.

I grew up next to a very, very old cemetery (across the street from us). It was a historical cemetery and I lived in a quaint Historical town (Granville, Ohio) and the cemetery matched it. I loved it. It was beautiful. It had some gorgeous tombstones too (those huge ones). It was never scary as a child. I thought it was a very pretty place to play. It was our playground. I only have fond memories of it.
I could tell you a story about one time when I was very young at the cemetery. My sisters and I put on Mickey Mouse ears hats and posed on and in front of our favorite tombstones. Taking pictures of each other with the hats on in front of our favorite pretty tombstones then sending them to Disney so we could be picked to be on the Mickey Mouse Club but I bet you wouldn't believe me. I wonder what they thought at Disney when they opened up the mail and saw our sweet smiling little faces with their hats on posing on or in front of tombstones? Hmmm...They never contacted us, I wonder why?

I worked in our cemetery for 8 years and still am the sexton and bookkeeper. They can be noisy for all the mowing and weed eating going on but other wise a really nice place to be in. After you get used to it you start to feel the peace in a cemetery. Our house now looks out at the cemetery but is a mile from it. We are up on a hill so we can see most of it. Dates to 1903 for what the deeds say but we think there are older graves there. I would LOVE to live next to one. There is a house here that is next to one of the cemeteries I worked in that is for sale. Too much $$$ for us but all redone inside and out.

I'd be fine with it. Quiet neighbours, green space that can't be developed. Have lived next to them before, older ones and my experience was much like Romas - it was an interesting playground growing up.
Some people might be turned off, but others might like it. Different horses for different courses as they say.

Just look at it this way. You'd have a cool hangout for the kiddies on Halloween!.....
