It is a tough one.
I prefer crawlspace for a warmer and more resilient floor.
But we talked about building, and I would consider a slab on the right lot, just to have minimal steps and easy accessibility.

I vote for basement. (Of course I didn't vote because that wasn't one of the options). I think around here non-basement houses mostly have a crawlspace but I'm not positive because literally everyone I can think of has a basement.

Isn't basement just a portion of the house? Otherwise it is called ground level. So the non-basement portion of the house would either be on crawl space or slab.

And that basement portion also has a foundation underneath it right?

Basement.
A crawl space (at least 5+ feet) if you have water problems.
Never slab.

The floor of a basement is a slab but it's very different than a house built on a slab because all of the systems, plumbing, wiring, etc. are easily accessible in the basement. Even when you finish a basement, you can do it so these features remain easily accessible.

Plus the benefit of the extra storage and/or living space, if you finish the basement.

Given these two as the ONLY choices... I say pass.

Raised slab or full basement.

Crawl spaces give me the willies. Spiderwebs, insects, and worse.

Agreed!

Basement is preferred. Slab would be my second choice due to the fact that critters can take up residency in a crawl space. I'll take the bugs over any type of mammal.....

I have a basement but there is a 300 square foot addition that is on a crawl space. I have never once opened the access door. If a need ever arises, I will call my dad so he can do it. I could live here for 50 years and I would be content never opening that access panel.

Yes and yes...basement or slab for me as well. Just the phrase 'crawl space' is enough to provoke anxiety and claustrophobia; no thanks!
