My favorite is the craftsman. The ranch is practical. I do not want to negotiate stairs.

I like my home because everything is in its proper place. It has charm, no wasted space and detail that looks like it belongs in a craftsman.

I did not like ranches when I was young. I thought what made a house was stairs. Lol!

I'm always on the hunt for main floor living, preferably a ranch, with no neighbors behind me. (a park or empty lot or something). I've bought one, I've built one, I've inherited and moved into one (current) and I'm thinking of building one.

Iím not single, but we have downsized and we are happily situated for now, although we could go smaller someday.

OP, you definitely want one floor, or at least a first floor master. You want a first floor laundry room, too. I would not be happy unless I had a few gardening possibilities and a fenced in area for a dog, so I donít have to walk it.

You want a safe neighborhood, and close medical and shopping.

To a dog, being cooped up in a fenced yard is like being in prison. Walking your dog is much better for your dog's physical and mental health. It's also good for you.

Type of property:
Why did you choose this type of property?
What is more important? Space or Commute to Work?
Price. Did you stretch your budget to get in to your desired property?

- 39
- 1 1/2 story house, ~1600 sq ft, with over-sized double car garage
- I looked at it, liked it, price was right
- Both... Has the space I want and I live a couple blocks away from work, short distance to bike trails, near downtown, etc.
- About $165,000 ... cheap, so not really a stretch for me.

South Dakota - Lived in many areas around the country, SD is not my favorite place, but the cost of living is pretty good... Definately different from when I lived in CA for a few years, less beaches
