it's all of 1500 ft from the "mainland" and an easement where he can park his car. he can buy a nice canoe and hire a local wage slave to paddle him over.

At the risk of humble bragging, I will say the essence of this thread is, buying island can be a small investment. I won't need this money in the future.

No I have not figured out the boating arrangement yet. But now that I have found a neighbor, whatever they do, I can do too. That's why I feel a lot more confident after the chat. Will be finding out these details in the coming days.

I am thinking about buying a house on the mainland side to house the boat. Here is what looks like a house in very good condition, only 90K Canadian dollars:

And check this out - an old house but with 3.7 acres of oceanfront land, for 55K Canadian dollars. This is just freaking mind-blowing (why aren't people who can't afford houses buying in Nova Scotia?):

'Getting foot in the door' or 'jumping on board first' is a sound strategy. That's how I got my start.

Looked into the local economy and historical market trends? Is there even enough activity to consider it a market? Fishing? Tourism?

There's plenty of cheap real estate in depressed areas with no or negative appreciation...so....

But you really didn't want anyone's opinion, it's very clear to everyone but you.

I guess if you somehow derive enjoyment out of an unimproved island thousands of miles away from you and your family...a family who rejects the idea as crazy and would probably never join you...I mean who are we to suggest otherwise?
