grandma build amusement park just so her grand kid can play without waiting in line.
all those wealthy people with private jets, while regular people buy plane ticket

nothing is crazy if you can financially support it and enjoy it, legally.

but if you are investing in island and hope for return, then yes, you are crazy.

Note the price drops from 39mm to 17mm even though the bank had about a 50 million dollar loan on it when it was bought/built!

Note this one has had years of govt fighting. Guy pays 80K a year in taxes yet gets ZERO city services.....seems unfair and then has to abide by all the city codes?

My take away from your post is to check building restrictions or requirements.

Have thought about that possibility. This would be a major concern for south pacific islands, which can be only 2-3 meters above sea level.

My solution is getting an island with a very high elevation peak, such as 50', or be prepared to throw soil on the island.

This would be only in the dreams for me.

Yes some of the prices during the peak of the the housing bubble are crazy. I still get a chill looking at the 07-08 prices of my neighborhood properties.

On second thought, since this is connecticut, this has to be tens of millions.

Electricity is available anywhere with solar energy. Costs 3-5 times more than normal grid power though.

I've entertained many interests in living on an island. The prepper and the private person in me can see the attraction.

A lot of island livers are dependent on a ferry for shuttling their cars back and forth.

It is more doable than many realize.

There will always be a real estate market for a livable island. Plenty of people fantasize about island living.
Learn something everyday. Reverse Osmosis has to be it for this day!

Did a quick research; there are already commercial machines available for sale. Seems the biggest problem of off-grid living is solved...
