I'm 30 years old and make a little over $50k a year and have about $40k in the bank and live at my parents house. I save whenever I can and I pay my parents rent.

My girlfriend thinks I should move out and get a 30 year mortgage. Is she right?

Is she right? Well is she going to pay the mortgage for you? Maybe she should sign up for a 30 year mortgage.

I just love it when people spend other people's money.

Unless you are living in a separate space on your parent's property like and ADU, I think you should move out. Whether or not you buy a home depends on whether or not you see yourself staying put where you work for a while.

Why does she think you should move out? Is she going to move in with you?

great. So, what is your plan? You've saved a lot; what is your intention for it? Do you plan on living with your parents until they die?

Why do I get the feeling that this is less about you getting a mortgage and more about you just not living with your parents? This sounds like it should be moved to the "Relationships" forum, not the Real Estate forum.

I'm ignoring your age because that's a different forum and ignoring that your GF is telling you how to spend your savings, also a different forum.

Do you want to buy a house? Do you want the responsibility of home ownership right now or are you content to continue living with your parents and saving money.

When she’s ready to co-sign that loan.

If you do, will she move in with you and pay you rent?
