America's oldest shopping mall in Providence, RI has turned the twoupper floors into micro-apartments, ranging from 225 to 775 square feet.

In 2016, $800 to $1,800 a month with 4,000 on the waiting list.

Exactly. They are one solution to the problem of using up resources, which in the scenario mentioned, might not even be desired by the users. That is, if someone wants to work in the city AND live in it close by AND they rarely care to use personal cars AND they are content with a small apartment, then why the heck not.

There literally is no one-size-fits-all solution to the worsening problem of resource consumption.

A few other reasons I had mentioned micros possibly suiting some elderly:

Less space =

* Less to clean
* Fewer places to lose things
* Lower cost to heat and cool
* Everything accessible within a small area
* Downsizing required before occupying, and required to maintain that lower level of “stuff”

All of these are benefits to younger people, too.
