This listing is literally fine. Nice basic tract style home, low to mid level finishes, good condition for the age. Blank canvas for a growing family. It’s clean and pretty bright.
Could it have been remodeled and staged to the nines. Sure. But most markets don’t need that for homes to move these days, if they’re well priced. The original post sounds like an HGTV brainwashed rant.

...and as a buyer, I HATE when a perfectly serviceable home is "done-up" just for selling, complete with a higher price tag, under-sized furniture so the rooms look bigger, and usually with trendy* finishes. Yeah, some people want/need a 100% move-in-ready/updated home, but a lot of us would prefer to pay less and do the updates/upgrades we want and need.
*vessel sinks, gray-on-gray-on-gray-on-gray, traditional red brick exterior painted over (usually in, let's see, gray?), all interior walls knocked down so you can see everybody's business as soon as the front door swings open
It's a perfectly fine listing, very similar to what you see everywhere. Are you trying to help them sell it? Good job!
As you know from living there, the area is a little remote but perfectly lovely. But today people look at house-condition/mechanicals, schools, medical services, and politics when choosing a home. And there are not a lot of jobs in the immediate area so a long commute may be needed.
Similar to what you see "everywhere?" No, it isn't. I have been looking at listings in Seattle and wondering if everyone there is paying for staging or uses an interior decorator. What is typical varies by market quite a bit.
I don't find the listing horrendous. It is what it is. maybe the owners couldn't afford to do cosmetic updates to suit hypothetical buyers. maybe they were fine with everything. Really, all they need to do is paint, buy some newer light fixtures, and capitalize on the nice front curb appeal by installing some nice, colorful landscaping. The kitchen is not a gut job as those cabinets are nice, though they may or may not be wood. They are still in great condition. Those white appliances are dated, but that's an easy fix.
This home is perfect for a younger family starting out, has ample space, and is a truly a blank canvas.
I've seen worse listings by realtors, trust me.
As for "cheap house", maybe it's not California level, but people need to remember that the home may not really be "cheap" at all when you factor in property taxes. A $400,000 home in my area would have a nice tax bill to go along with it, making one's monthly payment comparable to higher priced homes.
If you're going to take phone pictures, and some phones can take some decent acceptable pictures for that price range... at least don't make them vertical phone pictures.
It's actually extraordinarily normal looking considering it's in Asheville!
Those pics are, indeed, terrible -- they so look like someone just walked through quickly and snapped a quick pic with their iphone. But the house itself looked fairly nice. I'd go see it if it met my parameters. In this instance, the house probably shows better than the photos.
