So....
You have to choose between two identical houses in identical settings in the same neighborhood. Both homes fit your needs perfectly.
But, you have a choice to make:
They both have tile or vinyl in wet areas, i.e., baths, kitchen, laundry.
The rest of the house is either hardwood floors or carpet.

Which house will you pick?

Wood floors - easier to keep clean and is more aesthetically pleasing. I can't stand wall to wall carpeting. If someone wants a soft surface for flooring (like in a baby's room), I'd put in a large, plush rug which can be thrown out once it's grungy and worn out.

We have a nice antique Persian rug on our hardwood LR floor.

The trend is definitely hardscape in new homes and renovations. That can be wood or "luxury vinyl" (I laugh at that name).
Many still do wall-to-wall carpet in bedrooms for cost but trend is def. to hard floor with area rug on top.

We recently purchased and wood living rooms and common areas made it a "buy" compared to other choices. We'll refloor owners bedroom in wood to match but prob not guest room.

I can't vote because I like hardwoods and they definitely would help with resale value, but I want carpet in the bedrooms.

Wood. Wood is timeless and predates trendy wall to wall carpet. I'm old enough to remember when wall to wall was the "in" trend and everyone was covering up their wood with carpet. Only to rip the carpet out a few years later when it became to dirty to clean. Even my parents did it. Put down trendy shag carpet which took a lot of daily maintenance (anyone remember carpet rakes?). Only lasted a few years.

We just ripped up 80% of our carpet and had that wood looking tile installed. Entry, family, dining, kitchen, hallways bathrooms and laundry room. My wife insisted on carpet in the bedrooms. I wanted tile in the whole house.

Tile would be my first choice wood second carpet third.

1) This Q needs to be asked in each state... there are climate aspects to consider.
2) Too few seem to understand what hardwood actually means...
and consequently end up with one of the imposters.

Wow, I guess I am an anomaly - I loathe hard floors. I also don't find them easier to care for. They need frequent cleaning just like carpet. I also think carpet is more attractive.
