The story was incomplete. They never told if or why they did not get their deposit back from the landlord who sold his home.
Before so very many of you come down on her and those like her, remember: There are millions of Americans who are in the same boat. Im not talking unemployed bums. Im talking working class people who by some incident beyond their control. lose everything.
Next time you log on to your thousand dollar PC that costs you $40/m to connect in your nice big home with your nice secure job, think of the other less fortunate. They are humans and they are Americans just like you. The day you take the attitude that you got yours and to hell with everyone else is the day you deem yourself unhuman and a waste of human flesh.
I know I know here comes the hate mail. And here comes the hate posts telling them how bad they are and how they never should have rented such a large home and so on and so on.
What a sad story. I work with a charity in NJ which helps people in this situation, much more common than many realize and not new. Certainly not a result of the current foreclosures. In fact a drop in housing costs would benefit many of these families.
The families we help are frequently women who were abused, left with nothing but their children. Also elderly workers and families who have suffered major illnesses. They frequently work, but can't put together the cash for a downpayment.
There are similar stories in Nickel and Dimed (auther Barbara Ei....something).

It doesn't appear that anyone has anything but sympathy for this family. Perhaps you should be a little less reactive and judgemental.
I can't imagine "coming down" on this family. Poor souls and yes there are many other stories just like theirs. I wonder why the T.V station does not do a fund raiser for them.

I totally agree. So many people are saying tough luck, they deserve it. I'm better than they are. But it's everyone's problem.

Again. Nobody has said this.
In fact, if there is a "bad guy" here it is their scummy flipper/investor landlord who stole their downpayment money and put them in this situation. There is a lot of anger out there right now, and the pseudo investor thief is exactly the kind of person that anger is directed at. He got to "walk away" from his lousy investment, they lost their home and a child. Just because there is anger does not mean that people cannot distinguish between the truly needy and the truly greedy.
