How dose one determine if a lawyer is good, prior to hiring him and letting him affect your case. I will be hiring a realist ate lawyer to write a demand letter to an escrow company.

Best bet when choosing a lawyer is to ask other folks who've used him/her...

Ask a title company if they have worked with a real estate lawyer in past closings or is a certain lawyer doing many closing so you can expect that person to have more experience.

Check with the local Bar association regarding the lawyer's professional standing and find out whether he is experienced in this type of law.

If results are negative - ask the Bar association for a list of attorneys who specialized in real estate transactions.
