After 30+ years living in NYC, I'm beginning to reconsider relocating to California. While NYC has been a wonderful place to live and work, I'm now retired and find the cold winters no longer enjoyable. In considering relocation, I'd like to find a home not far from a city. I'm still enjoy the arts, independent movies, and edgy restaurants. I also hope to find a place that is oriented to progressive eco-friendly alternatives for living and food buying. There's no way that I can afford a house over $500K. But I'm hoping one of you readers might have some suggestions where I should begin my search.
I left Calif in 1992 and I would never go back. The taxes are outrageous, the traffic was horrendous, and is probably much worse now, and home prices are incredible. I lived in the South Bay area - Torrance, Hermosa beach, Redondo, Manhattan.
Have you thought of going directly south from NYC?
