If an agent is interested in getting referrals, not to mention repeat business, they will not use this argument. I would fire you on the spot.

There are plenty of buyers that need our services, This is the type that give us a bad name. An agent that gives away their own money is probably not a good negotiator. What will they do when it comes to negotiating for the sellers money?

But with that said, I have some bad news for you...we aren't heading to GA anymore. Makes more sense to stay in NJ if we can. Probably heading more west than we are now. You can still get bargains in NJ - you just have to keep looking!
Well let me know how it goes..I'm cheering for you!!
Thanks, and good luck to you too

The argument about real estate agents negotiating for their customers is getting old. Anyone that has used a realtor to buy or sell know that the realtor does not negotiate for them.

While I respect other peoples opinions as much as anyone does, this statement needs to be corrected.
It's possible that YOUR Realtor didn't negotiate for you.
Everyone that has used THIS Realtor had a Realtor who DID negotiate for them.
Please don't make such all emcompassing statements as "anyone that has used a Realtor..." You are one person, with one set of experiences. It's unfortunate that it wasn't a good experience. You have NO WAY to honestly extrapolate that set of experiences into a generality of all Realtors. Perhaps a more accurate statement from y ou would have been "MY Realtor didn't negotiate for me."

I have had that thought myself with regard to buyer's agents.

I always feel there is a definite conflict of interest in the sense that the more the buyer pays, the more the buyer's agent receives as commission.

The increase in commission is minimal. Isn't it better to make the sale? Often times money is the deal breaker. I'm in a situation now where my agent and the seller's agent are negotiating for ME. yes, both are, believe it or not. The seller's agent feels her client isn't being reasonable. She wants the sale as much as my agent does. Anyone can list a house, but not everyone can get it sold.

The loss of future referrals from your client is much more significant than by making a few more dollars by not representing their best interests and trying to get the best price possible for them. This is a red herring argument that has little basis in fact.

I have every right to speak to the seller. Agents do not control the world, despite some of the apparent claims to the contrary around here.
