would you buy a young condo unit or old house with bigger land?
I’m trying to get a feeling from others, do you personally prefer a 4 year old condo unit, with very little land, a HOA due OR a VERY old home with a larger land, but will have more problems with the old house down the road? Under the condition that the price is about the same, around the same area, same quality schools..thanks.
just examples here...
Example of newer condo:
2264 E. 4500 S. For Sale, Holladay UT Real Estate
OLD house example:

I would choose the house every time. Problems down the road will happen with the condo as well as the house.

I would choose the house. But that's my personal taste - I actually live in an early 1900's house on 55 acres. And our house in town is a 1950's house on a larger lot.

Has a lot to do with what you like or don't like.
If you don't like yard work - then the condo is for you.
If you don't mind yard work, but don't own stuff to take care of it - added expense. Plus the added expense of taking care of the yard, etc.
Condo may have little or no outside maintenance for you to be responsible for - saving in time and money.
House may or may not have a HOA. Some sub-divisions have HOA. This also depends on how you feel about rules and regs.
With either the condo or the house, there is always the expenses involved with upkeep and equipment wearing out. Condo may not have a roof expense, but some do. For instance, the water heater and heating system will wear out in both places.
If you have or want to have animals (dogs), then a house is usually a better choice.

I would choose based on the location and proximity to necessary services.

I would pick the house over the condo, but my issue was that the condo is super old like built in the 1930-50s, the condo was built in yr 2004. so, in this siutation which one would you prefer? the house is about 50 something yrs older than the condo...thanks for all of your input.

Would the taxes and insurance make a difference? In Florida, a home built prior to 2004 would would have higher homeowner insurance premiums. I think the newer construction would have better energy efficiency as well.
