Anyone ever put up a WANTED ad?
Just curious...
Anyone ever put up a WANTED: 15-20ACRES type of ad in the local paper? I'm thinking of doing this and seeing if I can get some landowners to contact me with some parcels they may want to sell.
Anyone had any success with this or something similar?

I would think it would be looked at negatively if you don't have a client for it. A Bait and Switch ad if I ever saw one. Instead, you might try a direct mailing to land owners asking them for their business.

Try Craig's List...
As an Exclusive Buyer's Agent, I have done this. I have clients in Arizona looking for a specific type of property here in Oregon. I put a "real estate wanted" ad on Craig's List and low and behold - a day later I had someone contact me about a property that fit the description.
It is worth a try, you have nothing to lose.
You might want to consider using a Exclusive Buyer's Agent in your search. They have access to information that will be helpful to you if you eventually do find a property. The sellers pay the fee, but you are represented fully by your buyer's agent and can rely on their expertise. Look into it, it's a very smart way to go.
Good luck finding your land!
Nannette

I have done this only when I've had a particular buyer looking for something that I couldn't find any other way...Don't do it if you're just looking for a listing.

I've done it on craigslist. I have gotten some decent leads. It does work.

There are many websites that you can list your wants on. DM me and I can give you a few websites if you like.
I think this may be more helpful than a newspaper classified.
Most people that own land and are looking to sell don't usually look in the newspaper.
Another option would be to narrow down to a couple of dozen parcels you are interested in and send them a letter.

When I was looking for land, I couldn't seem to find anything. I got in the car and drove around to find land I liked that wasn't for sale. I looked it up on the tax records and contacted the owner to see if they would be interested in selling. Sure enough, I found something for a decent price.

Good Luck TexasNick. and if it does not work out, give beckycat's suggestion a try. Sounds like a good one to me and is usually how we acquire large tracts of land for development.
